Towing
If you ever find yourself in the position of helping someone out with a tow, it is important that you know how to safely attach the tow rope.
Tow Tips
- Safety first - look around you, is it safe for you to tow? Will you get bogged and need help yourself if you assist the stranded motorist? Is the vehicle you are looking to tow much heavier than yours, if so it may cause your vehicle damage if you tow. Is the vehicle to be towed safe to move? Even vehicles that have been in minor crashes may have sustained damage that could rupture a fuel tank or cause a wheel to come off when moved.
- Dont attached the tow rope to any steering, suspesion equipment or rear axle on either car! This can cause significant damage to the vehicle.
- Dont attach a tow rope to a bumper bar - these can easily come off and cause a very dangerous situation.
- Always read the owners manual before attempting to tow any vehicle. Most modern vechiles have specifically designed tow points that should be used.
- If in doubt, dont attempt the tow, call a professional tow company instead. This may add time and cost to the initial incident, but will prevent possible expensive and inconvinient repairs being required down the track should your tow go wrong!
