Yellow Stickers and Vehicle Inspection WA Information : In WA before a vehicle can be registered it must pass a safety test at an approved inspection station if the vehicle: Has been modified, for example new engine or body. Is being registered in WA for the first time. Has been written off and is being  licensed for repair. Has received a compliance notice – otherwise known as a yellow sticker. In WA a compliance notice or yellow sticker can be issued by a police officer or a number of authorised wardens if they are deemed to be un-roadworthy. Some vehicles in Western Australia require annual Vehicle examinations prior to registration renewal. These include buses, taxis and driving school vehicles.

Certificate of roadworthiness (RWC) in Victoria :  In Victoria a certificate of roadworthiness is required when a vehicle is being sold. The owner of the vehicle must provide a current roadworthiness certificate to the buyer, unless the buyer is a spouse or a motor vehicle trader. A vehicle can be sold without an RWC if it is not registered however If a used vehicle is being re-registered an RWC will be needed. In some cases a roadworthiness certificate is also needed to clear a vehicle defect notice in Victoria. What is inspected during an RWC? Wheels and tyres. Steering, suspension and braking systems. Seats and seat belts. Lamps and reflectors. Windscreen, and windows including front windscreen wipers and washers. The structure of the vehicle itself. Other safety related items on the body, chassis or engine. The roadworthiness test is not a check of a vehicle's mechanical reliability or overall condition. If your vehicle needs a comprehensive check then you should arrange for a separate independent report such as those offered by the RACV, many Licensed Motor Car Traders (LMCTs) and other workshops. Please note that the certificate does not mean: That the vehicle is in top notch condition. Non-safety related parts like air conditioning, electric windows and rear-window wipers are functioning properly. That items checked during an inspection will continue to function after the inspection.

Other Vehicles are only inspected when the vehicle is being re-registered after receiving a defect notice, or if the vehicle has had the following modifications: Has been fitted with a non standard engine Construction has been changed (Sedan to convertible, left hand to right hand drive, seat capacity change) Has had a defect notice Seats 13 people or more Was imported from overseas Has been rebuilt from parts Is a trailer or vehicle over 4.5 tonnes, is more than 7 years old and has been previously registered in another state.

What is a Safety Certificate? In Queensland you are required by law to get a safety certificate if you plan to sell a vehicle, or when re-registering a vehicle.  Before you advertise your car, motorbike, trailer or any light vehicle for sale you must obtain and clearly display the certificate or risk an on the spot fine.  A roadworthy certificate in Queensland is valid for up to two months or 2000km whichever comes first but only for one sale.  There are some exemptions from this requirement such as sales in very remote areas or between car dealers. Who can provide a Safety Certificate in QLD? QLD Safety Certificates can only be issued by approved inspection stations (AIS), which can include service stations, garages or workshops approved by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
