What Is Stray Current

Stray Current Electrolysis occurs when an electrical current that is not related to the cooling system passes through the coolant or uses the coolant as a path to return to ground.

There is no single cause of, or solution for stray current

However, if it’s not resolved, repeated radiator failures can occur as the result of perforations caused by corrosion.

In some cases, an electrical current can be generated between the aluminium and cast-iron parts of an engine, in these cases, the coolant acts as an electrolyte.

Each instance must be investigated by suitably qualified technicians, and all reasonable or possible measures must be taken to resolve the issue to prevent an unexpected radiator failure.
