Penrite Oil Company

Environmental Sustainability

Penrite Oil and Repco Authorised Service Centres are united by a strong commitment to environmental sustainability, reflecting shared values in minimising their ecological footprint while delivering trusted automotive care. Penrite is spearheading initiatives across its operations to reduce environmental impact, focusing on efficient water and electricity use, extensive recycling programs, solar energy generation, and rainwater catchment.

Central to Penrite’s sustainable innovation is their award-winning ENVIRO BOX™ packaging system, which dramatically reduces plastic waste by replacing traditional 20-litre containers with an eco-friendly bag-in-a-box design. Penrite also embraces recycled plastics in its packaging, moving away from PVC toward PET, and uses 100% recyclable, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified cardboard cartons.

Energy conservation is a key focus, with Penrite harnessing solar power through a 145 kW photovoltaic system at its main site, capable of generating solar energy far beyond that of a typical household to power production facilities and reduce carbon emissions. Complementing this are rainwater harvesting programs, spill management training and equipment to protect waterways, installation of LED lighting with sensors, and the creation of native bushland gardens to support local ecosystems with reduced maintenance needs. Penrite is also preparing for the evolving automotive landscape by advancing lubricant technologies to support the growing number of hybrid and electric vehicles, underscoring its commitment to environmental responsibility and innovation.

Penrite Oil Company was founded in 1926 by Les Mecoles, a young entrepreneur from Melbourne who began blending oils in his family kitchen and delivering them locally with a wheelbarrow. Starting as an agent for established oil brands, Les quickly built his own reputation by creating Penrite, named to reflect the high-quality Pennsylvania crude oil he imported and blended. Throughout the 1930s, the business grew steadily, expanding into new products and facilities, and supporting the Australian war effort during World War II with lubricants and automotive supplies.

By combining advanced eco-friendly manufacturing practices with a widespread network of trusted local service centres, Penrite and Repco Authorised Service ensure customers receive not only top-quality products but also a shared commitment to protecting the environment for current and future generations.
