This heritage and accumulated expertise form the foundation of the strong partnership between Penrite and Repco Authorised Service. By combining Penrite’s advanced lubricant technology with Repco Authorised Service's trusted network of local workshops, the collaboration delivers premium-quality products and services that Australian motorists and mechanics rely on every day. This partnership embodies a commitment to performance, protection, and longevity, reinforcing the confidence customers place in both brands to keep their vehicles running smoothly and efficiently on Australian roads.

Penrite history

Penrite Oil Company was founded in 1926 by Les Mecoles, a young entrepreneur from Melbourne who began blending oils in his family kitchen and delivering them locally with a wheelbarrow. Starting as an agent for established oil brands, Les quickly built his own reputation by creating Penrite, named to reflect the high-quality Pennsylvania crude oil he imported and blended. Throughout the 1930s, the business grew steadily, expanding into new products and facilities, and supporting the Australian war effort during World War II with lubricants and automotive supplies.

After the war, Penrite continued to expand its reach across Australia under Les’s leadership, hiring and training sales staff to grow distribution. However, health challenges led Les to sell the company in 1979 to John Dymond, an industry expert who saw the need to create oils tailored specifically for Australian conditions rather than relying on imported products. Under the Dymonds, Penrite flourished by focusing on innovation and local manufacturing, reinforcing its position within Australia and expanding internationally.

Margaret Dymond, integral to the company’s culture and success, has been a steadfast figure in supporting grassroots motorsports and fostering a family-oriented business environment. Today, the company is led by the next generation of Dymonds, including CEO Toby Dymond and family members Nigel, Fleur, and Jon, who continue to foster technical innovation and business growth.

Penrite is poised to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026, marking a century of Australian innovation, quality, and resilience. This milestone underscores Penrite’s dedication to delivering premium, locally made lubricants trusted by Australian motorists and mechanics alike, with a strong commitment to manufacturing in Australia and supporting the automotive industry.
